How We Evaluate Products
Genable’s product evaluations are carried out by the Digital Health Institute for Transformation (DHIT), a nonprofit education and research institute.
We use DHIT’s e4 Evaluation Framework to assess how well products support older adults living independently at home. Our reviews consider four areas: effectiveness, experience, economics and enablement.
Effectiveness · 30%
Does it work?
We assess how well a product delivers its intended benefits. We review the evidence supporting its claims, information about reliability and any documented limitations. We distinguish between manufacturer claims and benefits supported by independent research or evaluations.
Experience · 30%
Is it easy to use?
We assess how straightforward a product is to set up and use, based on available instructions, demonstrations and user feedback. We look at controls, displays, alerts and accessibility features, including how well they accommodate differences in vision, hearing, dexterity and confidence with technology.
Economics · 20%
Is it worth the cost?
We assess the total cost of ownership alongside the benefits offered. This includes the purchase price, subscriptions, accessories and any installation or ongoing service fees. We also review pricing transparency, contract commitments and cancellation terms.
Enablement · 20%
What support does it need to work at home?
We assess the practical requirements for using and maintaining the product. These include internet and device compatibility, installation, technical support and ongoing maintenance. We also consider how family members or caregivers can help manage the product, access information or receive alerts.
How we calculate the scores
We score each area out of 100 and combine the results using the weightings above: effectiveness and experience contribute 30% each; economics and enablement contribute 20% each.
The overall score brings these four assessments together. It reflects the evidence and information available at the time of review.
What our evaluations cover
Our current scores are provisional assessments based on publicly available information. They do not represent hands-on testing, clinical validation or product certification.
Products, prices and services can change. Our evaluations provide a starting point for comparing products; suitability will depend on the individual’s needs and circumstances.
